CONFINED SPACE ENTRY TRAINING

Many workers are killed and injured every year during working in confined spaces. Most accidents in confined spaces happen due to a lack of awareness about hazards associated with confined spaces. A confined space means limited or restricted entry or exit and is not designed for continuous human occupancy. Examples of confined spaces include well, sewers, tunnels, manholes, tanks, pipes, silos, etc. A confined space can be more hazardous in comparison with regular workspaces for many reasons such as the presence of toxic gases, presence of flammable gases, insufficient amount of oxygen, etc. It is crucial that those involved in confined spaces entry are skilled and experienced, and thus trained in the associated hazards, which regrettably is not always the case.

IISFM offers a Confined Space Entry Training program which helps to manage the risks associated with confined spaces and it is important that every worker that enters a confined space must be fully trained.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The overall objective of this training is to increase the participants’ knowledge so that they can understand the risks encountered during confined space entry, the symptoms and their indicators, the consequences of exposure to hazards, and understand self-rescue and other rescue procedures.

LEARNING OUTCOME

On completion of this training the participants will be familiar with the:

  • Scope of confined space
  • Confined spaces risks & hazards with its control measures
  • Safe working practices in the confined space
  • Importance of permits, exposure limits, monitoring methods, and ventilation
  • Roles and responsibilities of attendants, supervisors, entrants, and other associated persons
  • Rescue arrangements and operation.
  • Safety equipment and pre-use checks
  • Understanding the legal & statutory requirements for confined space entry.
  • Atmospheric testing and recording.
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Use of breathing apparatus (SCBA)
  • Permit-To-Work system
  • Lock out/Tag out Procedures (LOTO).

BENEFITS OF TRAINING

This training ensures legal compliance with the confined space entry works. Confined space training involves some practical training including the use of safety harnesses, rescue and safety equipment such as SCBA, Tripod, etc., which makes participants competent. Training provides an opportunity to refresh rescue methods that must be practiced frequently so that participants will be fully aware of the use of rescue equipment and procedures.

WHO CAN ATTEND THIS TRAINING?

Everyone entering into the confined space must attend Confined Space Entry training to be aware of hazards and risks associated with the confined space and be familiar with the suitable control measures.

HOW WE DELIVER CONFINED SPACE TRAINING

  • PowerPoint presentations
  • 3D animation movies
  • Role-playing
  • Practical training
  • Case studies
  • Q&A sessions
  • One-to-one interaction

ASSESSMENT

  • The assessment of the learners is done through a multi-choice questionnaire (MCQ) set to assess the learning approach and the understanding of what is taught to them
